Shopify Returns App Pricing at 25, 100, and 250 Returns
A tier-by-tier look at Shopify returns app pricing, with the honest per-return math at 25, 100, and 250 returns a month.

Quick Answer: At 25 returns a month, Return Prime's Grow plan at $19.99 beats every alternative on Shopify returns app pricing without hurting the merchant experience. At 100, Grow with overage still wins the math, though I usually push people to the $49.99 Plus tier for the ceiling. At 250, Loop's $155-a-month floor stops looking absurd only if a large share of your returns are exchanges and you can commit to a year. Never sign the Loop annual contract at fewer than about 200 returns a month.
Loop Returns' Essential plan is $155 a month, billed annually. That is a $1,860 floor for a year of software. A merchant doing 25 returns a month, roughly what a $10-15k apparel store does at industry-average return rates, is paying Loop $74 per return processed. Return Prime charges $19.99 at that volume with a very similar merchant-facing portal. That is the cost gap Shopify's own returns tool has never closed, and it is what every Shopify returns app pricing conversation is really about.
I have walked about a dozen merchants through this decision in the last quarter. Two years ago I would have told most of them to install Loop and get it over with. I stopped saying that after one client on 50 returns a month signed the annual contract, held at 45 returns a month all year, and paid $6.20 per return processed. The Return Prime App Store listing hitting 4.8 stars and 724 reviews in August 2026, with the #1 rank in the returns and exchanges category, is what finally forced me to rewrite the recommendation script. So here it is, rewritten, with the math.
What Shopify's native returns still cannot do
Shopify has narrowed some of the gaps this year. Restocking fees are now a percentage-based native setting. Market-specific return rules landed in early access. Those are real improvements, and if you were installing a returns app in 2024 only for a percentage restocking fee, you can uninstall it.
The gaps that still push merchants to a paid app are the same four that have been documented in community threads for two years running.
The first is customizable return reasons with conditional logic. When a customer selects "wrong color received," you want a photo. When they select "changed mind," you do not. Shopify's native tool shows the same form for every reason. A July 2026 feature request thread on Shopify Community laid it out plainly: the merchant wanted required fields to vary by reason and got no staff reply. Photos cannot be required at all.
The second is exchange in the same customer flow. A customer who wants a different size cannot pick the replacement variant inside the return request. They submit a return, then email you, then you manually create a new order. UK merchants have been documented creating £0-value replacement orders as a workaround and losing packages that carriers do not insure at zero declared value.
The third is automated carrier labels beyond what Shopify Shipping covers. This one is worse in Canada, where Shopify Shipping does not generate return labels at all. If you ship from Canada, native returns cannot get you to a working process without a third-party app.
The fourth is subtle: there is no middle-ground request action. You can approve or decline. You cannot ask for more information without leaving the tool and emailing the customer separately, at which point the return sits in an ambiguous state.
Any Shopify returns app pricing table has to sit on top of those four gaps. You are paying to fix one or more of them, not for "returns handling" in general.
Cost at 25 returns a month
At 25 returns a month, you are the merchant Loop's marketing does not want you to model. A store doing $10-15k a month, average order value around $60, 15% return rate on apparel lands here. Roughly.
| App | Plan | Monthly cost | Per return |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify native | Free | $0 | $0 |
| Return Prime | Grow | $19.99 | $0.80 |
| ReturnGO | Starter (20 included, 5 overage at $1.25) | $29.25 | $1.17 |
| AfterShip Returns | Essentials (20 included, per return above) | ~$17 | ~$0.68 |
| Redo | Portal only | $0 | $0 |
| Loop | Essential (annual) | $155 | $6.20 |
Redo's portal is genuinely free at this volume as long as you leave the modules off. Turn on checkout optimization at $0.50 per order and a 500-order store adds $250 a month. Turn on tracking at $0.08 per order and add another $40. Turn on the AI resolution module at $0.85 per conversation and add whatever your support volume is. A store doing 500 orders with all three modules pays $355 a month for what looks in the App Store like a free returns app. Model this before you enable anything.
Return Prime Grow at $19.99 is my default recommendation here. It has the exchange-in-flow that Shopify native lacks. Setup takes an evening. The annual outlay is $240, which is under one month of Loop Essential. If your growth curve is likely to push you past 60 returns a month within the year, look at the Plus plan at $49.99 before you outgrow Grow and start paying $0.25 per overage return.
The one case where Return Prime is not right at 25 returns a month is if you are an EU merchant who needs the withdrawal button flow now and does not want to bolt on a separate compliance app. Redo bundles that flow for free. Loop charges €3 for it and did not handle the announcement well, which I will get to below.
Cost at 100 returns a month
At 100 returns a month you have cleared every free tier I know of. This is the band where merchants actually make the wrong call, because it is where the "just install Loop, it's the professional option" recommendation still gets thrown around casually.
| App | Plan | Monthly cost | Per return |
|---|---|---|---|
| Return Prime | Grow (60 + 40 overage at $0.25) | $29.99 | $0.30 |
| Return Prime | Plus (unlimited) | $49.99 | $0.50 |
| ReturnGO | Growth | $113 | $1.13 |
| AfterShip | Pro | $59 | $0.59 |
| Redo | Portal + tracking on 500 orders | $40 | $0.40 |
| Loop | Essential (annual, well under overage) | $155 | $1.55 |
Two notes. AfterShip Pro at $59 was described by a merchant in a February 2026 r/shopify test as still lacking key automation features. I have not audited AfterShip Pro end to end personally, but the pattern across community threads is that its exchange flow is weaker than Loop's or Return Prime's at the same price. I would not sign it without testing the exchange experience with a real order.
The Return Prime Grow overage math is where the Shopify returns app pricing story gets interesting. At 100 returns a month you are paying $29.99 on the Grow plan and about $0.30 per return processed. That is cheaper than the Plus plan on paper. The reason I still push merchants to Plus at this volume is the ceiling: any month you spike, you pay more; any month a promotion doubles your orders, your bill doubles too. Plus at $49.99 buys you certainty for a $20 monthly premium.
Redo's headline number of $40 assumes you turned on tracking to get more usable analytics. If you leave every module off, Redo is free and covers the portal cleanly. If you turn on everything, Redo can cost more than Loop. The pricing is opaque only because it is entirely usage-driven. It is not hidden; you just have to model it.
Cost at 250 returns a month
At 250 returns a month you are the merchant Loop's Essential plan was priced for. This is also the band where I have started asking merchants more carefully about their exchange rate before I recommend anything.
| App | Plan | Monthly cost | Per return |
|---|---|---|---|
| Return Prime | Plus (unlimited) | $49.99 | $0.20 |
| ReturnGO | Growth | $113 | $0.45 |
| AfterShip | Advanced | $239 | $0.96 |
| Redo | Portal + full modules on 800 orders | ~$540 | $2.16 |
| Loop | Essential (annual, 50 return overage at $4.50) | $380 | $1.52 |
Loop at 250 returns a month blows past the Essential allotment and adds $225 a month in overage charges on top of the $155 subscription. The all-in per-return cost is $1.52, roughly seven and a half times what Return Prime Plus works out to.
That gap is real, but the honest read on it is that Loop's exchange flow does work better than Return Prime's in one specific way. Loop lets the customer swap a size and see the price difference charged to their card inside the same transaction, without you having to send a payment link. That saves your support person a message per exchange. If 40% of your 250 returns are exchanges, roughly the industry range cited in returns cost guides, you are talking about 100 support-touches a month that Loop's flow avoids. Whether that is worth $1,830 a year of net Shopify returns app pricing difference depends on what your support labor costs and how many of those exchanges would have failed on Return Prime.
I still would not sign the Loop annual contract at 250 returns a month unless there is a clear line of sight to 400 within a year. Under that ceiling, Return Prime Plus buys you most of the operational experience for a small fraction of the price.
Where the tables do not tell the whole story
Three edge cases distort the math above enough that they belong in any Shopify returns app pricing decision.
The first is EU withdrawal button compliance. As of mid-2026, the EU withdrawal right requires a specific compliance flow on your returns portal. Loop added a €3 flat fee for it. Redo and Refundid bundled it for free. The r/shopify thread on this ran strongly against Loop; the original poster wrote that "tracking returns in two separate systems in a high-volume store isn't viable." No commenter defended Loop's decision. I have not evaluated Refundid personally, but Redo's implementation is a toggle, and merchant reviews so far have not surfaced a failure mode.
The second is Shopify Markets and multi-currency exchange credit. Loop has a documented incompatibility where a US customer processing an exchange sees the credit denominated in AUD if that is your store's base currency. No app cleanly solves cross-market exchange credit yet. If you sell across markets and offer exchanges, test the flow with a real order before you sign any annual contract.
The third is the POS Pro exchange gate. If you accept in-store returns, Shopify POS non-Pro cannot process exchanges. POS Pro is $89 per location per month. A Canadian retailer put it directly in a June 2026 r/shopify thread: they cannot process an exchange at the POS without paying $89 a month per location, and it feels insane to them. No third-party returns app bridges this gap. It is Shopify's own product gating.
There is also a compliance clock. Effective December 1, 2026, returns and exchanges apps must authenticate through Shopify's Customer Account API to keep their Built-for-Shopify status. Return Prime, Loop, Redo, and the other well-resourced apps have all signaled migration in progress. Some smaller apps have gone quiet. If you are evaluating an app in the next quarter, check its most recent changelog for explicit mention of Customer Account API migration before you commit.

What I would actually pick
Under 20 returns a month, install nothing. Shopify's native returns handles the request. Process exchanges by email. The three or four hours a month you spend on it costs less than the cheapest paid tier's annual outlay.
At 20 to 60 returns a month, install Return Prime Grow at $19.99. Exchange-in-flow works. Setup takes a night. Annual outlay is $240.
At 60 to 180 returns a month, run Return Prime Grow with overage until you hit consistent 120-return months, then move to Plus at $49.99 for the unlimited ceiling. If you are EU-based and want the withdrawal flow bundled for free, evaluate Redo's portal with modules off and Refundid alongside Return Prime.
At 180 to 400 returns a month, model Loop against Return Prime Plus specifically for exchange volume. If your exchange rate is under 30%, stay on Return Prime. If it is over 40% and your support person is already saturated, price the Loop annual contract against the labor you would save. Sign at contract renewal only. Loop's early termination terms are not friendly.
At 400 or more returns a month with a dedicated returns operator, Loop is the answer more often than not. Their exchange flow, their reporting, and their carrier integrations are worth the $1,860 floor when returns are being run as a real operation.
If you have already installed Loop on a store doing 50 returns a month, the fix is not to switch tomorrow. It is to model the switch, run the math your board will want to see, and time the migration to your renewal date. If you would rather do that modeling with someone who has walked other merchants through it, the first 15 minutes on help1 chat is free, and the return-tier decision is one of the things that call is genuinely useful for.
Model your actual monthly volume before you sign anything with an annual commitment. Shopify returns app pricing has been distorted for years by Loop's positioning as the professional default, and the market has now given you a $49.99 answer that did not exist eighteen months ago.
